I live in the Tamaki electorate (St Johns for those that don’t know) and anyone familiar with this old Muldoon haunt will know that its very much a National Party stronghold.

On my way home from work this evening, I got to the Remuera Golf course and was coming down the new Naghue Dr (formally College Rd) when I noticed that there were no Labour Party signs. This made me take a little bit more notice and as I got closer to Flint Way where I knew a Labour sign used to be, I had a proper look. There, on the ground in lots of pieces, was the Labour Party sign.

Now, this was very specific. The National Party, Act Party and Green Party signs are all still standing. So I thought I’d take a quick detour home and have another look at known sign spots and what do you know. Nearly all places where campaign signs are posted Every election year, the Labour signs were destroyed while other party’s signs were left alone entirely.

Now, given there is the Tamaki Campus of Auckland University just down the hill from me, you could suggest its a student prank. Or you could also suggest that maybe, just maybe, its the Tamaki electorate casting its vote already.

I’ll let you decide. ;-)
