So I’ve decided to reduce my footprint. My online foot print that is. I’m just really starting to find myself Web2.0′d out. The time investment required just does not make it worth the effort anymore.

Today I closed my Facebook and Last.FM accounts. I have also decided to stop using my Twitter account and cut way back on my FriendFeed usage. I unsubscribed from nearly everyone I was following except those I know personally on Twitter, and pruned back to only those whom post things I find truly interesting on FriendFeed. On top of that, I have marked both of the accounts as private.

I’m sick of spending so much time at the computer. I’m tired of getting bombarded with so much information. I subscribe to more podcasts than I can genuinely listen to/watch in a month, even with pruning and an entire day a month dedicated to podcasts. I am tired of so much input from so many web resources that my Google Reader list is always above 1000 and I constantly find myself just hitting the “Mark all as read” button. I’m tired of the mailing list label in Gmail always having a number beside it, even if I just went through it a few minutes ago.

I cannot disconnect entirely. I have to be online a certain amount. But I have come to the decision that I just can’t be bothered keeping up with the latest news, the latest meme, the latest gadget or the latest security alert out there.

I’ll get the weather, I’ll get my local news, and now and then I’ll even sit down and take a look through twitter or Friendfeed or Digg or Slashdot or whatever. But only at my pace, and only when I feel like it. I will pull the data to me manually from now on. I cannot be bothered getting the data pushed at me any more… Its just a bottomless pit.

Goodbye Web 2.0.
