Captcha Working!
Okay, so I know I really should be concentrating on other things right now, but this is something that has been bugging me for a while and the damn bots are getting more frequent.
So after clearing a freaking huge amount of spam submissions from my inbox tonight, and then completing the bonus for Sanctum Cay, then browsing the web a little, I finally decided that I needed to just knuckle down and get this thing working. So its done.
What? Oh, the captcha on the contact form is finally in place and actually working to stop the spammer’s bots from sending me a bucket load of junk via the form. It was getting bad enough that it was almost like the days of dealing with email spam before Google’s Gmail got as good as it is. Only this stuff I couldn’t filter as spam because I didn’t want to risk Gmail blocking everything that was submitted that way.
There are some issues that could prove interesting though. Not sure how it will interact with the wiki and other software when I finally get things sorted out properly. Will find out soon enough I guess.
Added to my task list today is a little side project that requires me to figure out some Python code to replace part a tracker system a local radio station uses. The system they have in place at the moment is still running on eComStation (used to be OS/2 Warp till IBM sold it.) The back end will probably stay on eComStation but the radio station, and my boss, are getting concerned that if the front end machine dies (the machine that actually takes the music and plays it on the radio) the chances of easily finding another machine that could still run this version of eComStation (or OS/2) are pretty slim now days.
Having said that, there appears to be a new version coming out soon that is backwards compatible and supposedly still runs older software.
Scary admission. I still have a legitimate and licensed CD copy of OS/2 Warp 3.0 from 1994. I used to love the fact I had OS/2 3.0 Warp in 1994 when everyone else ran Windows 3.1 (or 3.11) and was still waiting for Windows 95. Funny how things change. :-)
Oh well. Now that I’ve actually been productive, of a sort, I’m going to put my drunk self in bed.
GO THE MAROONS! Queensland for Life!
