2 Minor Changes – Captcha + FriendFeed
Just a quick update to some of the changes that I’ll be making here shortly.
1) I’ll be adding a captcha of sorts to the Contact form I have on my sites. Spammers have started testing it to see if they can feed me links through it and they’re getting more and more intrusive as things progress. I’ve coded it such that they can’t use it to relay spam to anyone else; anything entered on that form goes solely to me. Unfortunately I’m not liking my own inbox getting loaded with that kind of spam. Especially when I don’t want to flag it as spam for fear Gmail may automatically start to flag anything coming from that form. So a captcha will be going on there.
2) Because I don’t post as much as I used to, but my online life is actually getting lots of noise anyway, I’m going to swap my RSS feed over to my FriendFeed stream. This will then show up blog posts, stuff I digg, stuff I share in Google Reader, stuff I mark favourite on YouTube, stuff I put on twitter, my Facebook whatevers, stuff I put in del.icio.us, stuff from my Last.FM feed and more. It will allow you to see a lot more of what I do online as well as in my day to day life rather than waiting for me to blog about it.
In fact, there have been times when I was going to write an application to do pretty much the same thing. Take all the RSS feeds and aggregate them into a single big list so that I could share them here. However, that’d mean writing code again, and I haven’t written serious code in a long time now. So FriendFeed give me the best of all those features and makes it a lot easier. It also covers a lot more networks than I’d thought of as well :-)
Anyway, this won’t happen till next weekend I think. You might want to subscribe to the FriendFeed RSS yourself separately if you like. But the main FeedBurner RSS feed will be switching to FriendFeed next weekend. Its just easier :-)
