Poor attempt at blogging
Well, hi there folks. Sorry its been a while. A long while. Blame work for that one. Sorry about that. Not much one can do when you’re working 13 hours a day, spending 3 hours a day in traffic to and from work, and then sleeping (or trying to) the remaining 8 hours.
So much to say, so little motivation to say it. ;-) Might as well cover the personal news so you’re aware of whats happening with me at least :-).
Big news of the month, I’m accepting a role with an IT company again. Which means I’ll be going back to casual for the security work and full time with computers all over again. Officially the role is simply “Computer Technician” but from the sounds of it, I’m the first in a planned range of Linux guys.
The hardest part in the new role will be learning how to use and administer Microsoft Windows. I haven’t touched Windows in an admin capacity since Windows 2000, and even then only briefly. So this new role is most definitely going to be a challenge. I’m trying to find my Windows 2K3 CD around here somewhere, but in all the clutter it appears to have vanished.
So this means that I’ll be going back to casual work on the security front. Great. :-/ As hard as the job is, and as exhausted as it leaves me at the end of a week, I do really enjoy the job. Its a great group of people I work with, and an even greater group of people I work for. The company has been really good to me in the short time I’ve been with them, and I don’t want to end my association with them. So for that reason I am going to continue on with them in a casual role.
I have to admit, working outside through the worst storm in known NZ history was ummmm…. interesting. :-) I really don’t know how else to put it. I’ve had the worst luck in the past week too. Crashed a patrol car, so many flat tyres with the debris on the road and more. It just got to the point where I was tempted to just throw my run sheet out the window and say it got lost in the storm.
To say I was glad when Thursday morning arrived and I don’t have to work again till Sunday morning… Well, lets just say that understatement doesn’t even come close to expressing how I feel about not having to work tonight. :-)
There are truly some idiots out there. That storm was murder, and there are people flying along the roads as if it were just another sunny Sunday afternoon. I’m not the greatest driver in the world. Make no claims to that end. I have no intention of trying to be one. I try to keep things as safe as possible and just do my job. But its not exactly easy when there are people out there who are driving like complete morons.
… Anyway …
I really don’t have much urge to blog lately. This post has been in draft form since the 11th of this month. So I’m just going to leave it there for now. ;-)
