Tazzy Prisons Seek NZ Help?
Risdon Prison houses some of Australia’s most notorious criminals and has come under fire for some time for its deteriorating condition and antiquated facilities.
NZ Corrections chief Barry Matthews said yesterday that the Tasmania Prison Service had sought between 12 and 16 Corrections officers to share their expertise and help with the transition between the old and new prisons.
Tasmanian prisons spokeswoman Ginna Webster said New Zealand’s system impressed a delegation of her colleagues during a visit in May.
One does wonder if they actually saw our prison system, read any of the news stories about it from the past 2 or 3 years and whether they’ve actually been inside a prison like Mt Eden ;-)
Or could it be that the Tasmanian prison system is really that bad that even ours looks good in comparison? ;-)
