This is just a reminder to everyone in Auckland that your submissions on the proposed road tolls in and around Auckland City (including the CBD and as far as the Manukau and Waitakere city borders) must be made BY Friday of this week.

If you have not done so, please go to the Ministry of Transport website to find the details on the proposal, the report itself and also information on the various methods you can use to make your submission. Its as simple as submitting an email, or as difficult as sending a written submission via the postal service.

You can get a recap of my thoughts on this proposal in my previous post on this subject.

And yes, I have already submitted my opposition to the proposal. Until there is a viable public transport system in this city, this idea does nothing except put the cost of living even higher out of reach of many people. We already pay road user charges in the cost of our petrol (or seperately if you run diesel vehicles.) All this is doing is making us pay that twice.

I won’t be able to go visit my friends who live outside Auckland City in Manukau or the North Shore or out west. It’ll be like the bad old days where getting there becomes so difficult on the current public transport, you might as well stay overnight.

Still, thats only my opinion of the proposal. Everyone has their own opinion and I hope you all make your opinions heard and known by submitting them to the Ministry of Transport before Friday.
