C4 Apologises. ROFLMAO
This is so funny it hurts my sides from laughing so hard :-)
Complaints about the controversial “Bloody Mary” South Park episode are likely to be forwarded to the Broadcasting Standards Authority, after television station C4 declined to uphold them.
C4 apologised yesterday for causing offence by screening the cartoon, which features a statue of the Virgin Mary menstruating, on February 22, and pledged not to screen it again.
CanWest TVWorks chief operating officer Rick Friesen said C4 had received 102 formal complaints. Its standards committee decided not to uphold them because the episode complied with the Television Code approved by the Broadcasting Standards Authority.
“However, C4 acknowledges the strength of feeling in relation to the programme, and we sincerely apologise for any offence taken.”
“We’re sorry we brought the date of the episode forward to ensure we could screen it before any formal objection could be filed with the complaints authority.”
HAHAHAHA :-) CanWest isn’t dumb. Its far more profitable to apologise to those insulted after screening a controversial episode like this. I’d seen the episode before, but even I watched it on C4 simply because of the controversy it caused. The amount of advertising revenue generated by this episode…. :-)
C4 is laughing all the way to the bank. They’ve aired the episode and got the coin for doing so. Now they apologise and start to build the bridges of the very few that were upset by this issue. The funniest part in all this is that I doubt whether its affected their ratings at all. Most of those upset by this episode going to air were not the target audience of C4 anyway. The minority that might have been both a C4 viewer and upset probably replaced C4 with Shine TV anyway. ;-)
Looking forward to May 3rd when we can all laugh at Scientology. :-) Will those that were upset by the Bloody Mary episode also be complaining about the “Trapped in the Closet” episode? I seriously doubt it.
