Currently in Guild Wars there is a fight between the gods Dwayna and Grenth over who will rule the next year. :-) And instead of the gods themselves coming down and getting all dirty and icky, they’ve got us mere mortals doing the fighting for them. But its with a twist.

There is a new arena in town. It looks strangely like the Yak’s Bend arena, but its not. At least not according to my map which says the arena doesn’t exist ;-)

All your skills are replaced with a set of new skills. All related to a snow fight. You can throw snow balls and mega snowballs. You can hide rocks in snow balls and you can even throw yellow snowballs :-)

Hidden around the arena are presents. The first team to get 5 presents back to their god’s avatar wins the fight.

And these snowballs can actually kill you ;-) Its not as easy as it sounds. ;-) Some snowballs will knock you down and daze you. Others will poison you. Guess which ones. :-) If you put a rock in a mega yellow snowball, then you’ve pretty much got a damn powerful snowball thats really gonna hurt. ;-)

This is sooo much fun. Unfortunately none of these screenshots are of the fighting in the arena, was having too much fun to think about getting screenies at the time. Will do so after the family thing later on Christmas Day. ;-)

I resubscribed to WoW to check out this years christmas decorations. They’re not that much different from last years from what I can tell. Theres a lot of them in places like IronForge, and you can throw snowballs at each other, but they’re kinda boring quests. Although, turning your mount in to a reindeer is kinda cool. :-)

In Guild Wars things are very much in a similar vein to the way they were at Halloween, except with a Christmas theme, different quests and different gifts to aquire. Oh yeah… And its snowing in Lions Arch. ;-)

I know this is sounding stupid, but I’m much prefering the Guild Wars holiday festivities over the WoW ones… Yet again. Just seems more fun and more interesting. I can prove that point by saying that since I resubscribed to WoW a week ago (17th) I have only played it maybe 3 or 4 times. It just doesn’t hold my attention.

I wonder what Guild Wars will do for Valentines day? This past February WoW make a big deal of it with treasure hunts and all sorts (as there is currently in GW) but I’m curious as to how they’ll fit it in to the GW world ;-) I have to admit I was quite surprised that they’d managed to get Halloween in, and my expectations for Christmas/New Years (the final big snow fight is on Dec 31 from what I can tell) have been exceed. :-) Lets see what happens in February. ;-)

Oooh… I’m more excited about Christmas in a game than I am about it out here in the real world. :-) Thats just weird of me. ;-) *cough*addict*cough*

Update: Okay, now that I got it all displaying properly, the pictures in order from top to bottom are …

  • Gingerbread Men in Crafters corner of Droknars Forge
  • Tree in post-searing Ascalon City
  • Tree in Droknars Forge looking towards the Xulani Storage area
  • Lions Arch main square. Fountain replaced by tree (was a cauldren for Halloween)

As I mentioned in the comments, I’ll add more when I get some screenies of the snowfights. ;-)
