ARGH!!! How do people use the net with No cache???
Dammit… I’m missing Odyssey severely already. The internet is soooo much slower with out it. :-(
Okay, maybe its not actually slower, it just seems to take longer. No local proxy or DNS just makes things happen that much further down the line. Longer to get to the server, longer to come back to me, then time to fetch the information. At least with the bind 9 server, it was caching all the DNS requests so it already knew where to find sites I visited often. Didn’t have to go out and ask the Internet each and every time. :-| Combined with the proxy, all I fetched was the changed info. Not the stuff that rarely/never changed.
Is this really how other people live on the net? Its soo… Laggy. :-|
Its like playing Quake 4 online with a ping time of 1000ms. By the time you get your shot off, they’ve already moved and you’re dead.
Okay… That sorts it out… First order of the day is coming up with a replacement server and getting it running as rapidly as possible. This is almost so painful as to be ludicrous. I don’t remember the last time I used the net without a local caching proxy/dns in between, but I definitely don’t like the experience.
